What we store, why, and how to remove it.
This policy explains what MyFretwork stores about you, why, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
MyFretwork is operated by Paul Neil Music LLC, which is responsible for the data described here.
Your account. A name, and either an email address or a username. Students whose accounts are created by their teacher have no email collected at all. Passwords are stored hashed and nobody here can read them.
What you choose to add. A preferred name, a photo, a headline, a location, a short bio. All optional, all editable, all removable.
What you make. Posts, comments, sheet music and chord charts you write, and recordings of yourself playing, including video and audio.
How your practice is going. Game progress and scores, how long you actually spend playing, quiz answers and results, lessons finished, assignments completed, songs you mark as learning or performance-ready, and the tempos you record on an exercise.
How the site is used. A record of actions you take, when you were last online, and which pages are opened. Page-view records are deleted after 90 days.
There is no advertising, no ad network, and no tracking pixel anywhere in this site. Nothing you do here is sold, rented, or shared with a data broker. There is no third-party analytics service watching you.
Notes and voice memos in your notebook are yours. No teacher and no administrator can read them, including the person who runs this community. That is enforced in the code itself, not by a promise.
The one exception is narrow and worth stating plainly. If a note contains wording that suggests you may be in danger, a teacher is told that a note raised a concern, and what kind of concern it was. They are never shown the note, any part of it, or which note it was.
Only what you choose to share. Posts and comments are visible to people who can see the space you posted in. Recordings are private to you until you publish them, and sheet music you write is private until it is published.
Teachers can see the work of students in their own sections: assignments, quiz results, game progress and the songs you can play. That is what a teacher needs in order to teach.
Running the site means a few companies store data on our behalf. They process it for us and nothing more.
Your data stays while your account does. Backups of the database are kept for about a month, plus one a month for a year, so a deleted account can persist in a backup for a short while after it is gone from the site.
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from your profile page. It asks for your password and asks you to type a confirmation, because it cannot be undone. Deleting removes your account and the things attached to it, including your posts, comments, recordings and notebook.
Students with a teacher-created account should speak to their teacher, because the school owns that account. If you claim your account with your own email address it becomes yours, and then you can delete it yourself.
This community is built for high-school students and adults. It is not intended for children under 13, and accounts should not be created for them.
If this policy changes in a way that matters, it will be said here rather than quietly edited.
Questions about any of this, or about data we hold on you, go to the person who runs this community, or to Paul Neil Music LLC.
